James currently serves as the Head of Growth at EcoMap, a leading ecosystem intelligence AI software that transforms the way hyperlocal information is accessed. In this role, the first of its kind for EcoMap, Feagin is responsible for holistically examining sales processes and strategies to accelerate the adoption of ecosystem technology to customers across the country. James has spent the last 20+ years as a disruptor, delivering innovation, impact and equity to the fields of corporate responsibility, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship and mobility.As an economic development practitioner, he has provided strategic counsel for the National Science Foundation, the Knight Foundation, MIT Media Lab, the New Economy Initiative, Ford Philanthropy, Newlab, and TED.He has supported inclusive ecosystem development in multiple US markets including Detroit, Miami and Cleveland. And in 2019 he served as a technical expert for the Equitable Economic Development Fellowship, a collaborative effort led by National League of Cities, Policy Link, and Urban Land Institute.Prior to joining EocMap, James founded Black Bottom Ventures, a boutique venture strategy firm that specializes in growth strategies for founders and economic mobility for communities. He also created the Director of Economic Mobility role for the Gilbert Family Foundation, where he led equitable wealth creation as part of GFF's 10-year, $500 million dollar commitment to Detroit. While there, James helped launch the first Apple Developer Academy in North America, and created Venture 313, a $10 million dollar early-stage fund focused on supporting founders from "first idea to first round."With a proven ability to think “from the boardroom to the barbershop,” James enjoys sharing Detroit’s ecosystem successes, and lessons learned, with other communities.He currently serves on the boards of the Marygrove Conservancy and Venture for America.
