I will be working to develop embedded control systems for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

As a member of the Stack/System Integration team, I supported many efforts and projects aimed at improving the durability of the GenDrive product line: the most produced fuel cell system in the world. Working in a fast-paced environment I helped to identify the root cause of failures, design test methods and equipment to replicate failure modes, and developed corrective actions and mitigation strategies to prevent recurrence. This required me to design and build test equipment, develop the control systems to operate them, provide documentation and training for their use, and write software to accelerate the processing of data which was produced. One notable project that I led was a modular Cell Voltage Monitoring system which seamlessly integrated with the GenDrive unit and allowed for the collection of data to identify weak cells during operation. Another major project was providing critical test support to identify the root cause of high-severity failures which affected a high-profile customer. This included providing software to enable dynamic load control for a small-scale test article that could replicate the voltage and current behaviors which were experienced in the field. During this time, I also developed a diagnostic test to identify cells vulnerable to failure which could be performed on used stacks. This contributed to a 60x reduction in time required to assess material vulnerability of various component configurations. In short, I facilitated the development and validation efforts of my entire team and was familiar with all stages of the product development lifecycle.

I am currently working as a research engineer with the fuel cell research team, where I am helping to develop the testing protocols used to assess the next generation of fuel cells for automotive applications. Moving towards clean energy options for our future mobility solutions will help to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

I developed calibration setpoints for engine performance, fuel economy, and emissions. To do this I designed test procedures which assessed specific metrics, executed the test plans in a laboratory setting, and interpreted the data. Through this process my team was able to make data driven decisions. In this role I have developed my skills at thinking conceptually about combustion phenomenon, project planning, data analysis, and troubleshooting hardware and software challenges.

As an FCG, I became familiar with the Ford Motor Company and their model for competing in the automotive world. During this process, I developed my skills as an engineer by participating in many training activities to ground myself in the fundamental skills required for a person in a variety of roles. My greatest contributions were found working with Diesel Engines, where I assisted in the delivery of essential 4th quarter targets by resolving an urgent production challenge through the use of 6-Sigma and 8D problem solving methodologies.

Working closely with a small group of dedicated engineers, I helped create processes to fabricate parts using advanced composites to reduce drag on a rocket in the transonic region. This was part of a larger initiative by the organization to transition to an all-composite structure in the near future.

Helped cultivate a greater understanding of mathematics as they apply to the physical world.

I was responsible for the operation of a team of students who designed and built a sounding rocket capable of delivering a 10 lb payload to an altitude of 10,000 ft AGL for the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition. At competition we scored 5th out of 25 schools after the successful launch and recovery of the rocket in Green River, UT. Prior to my service as Chief Engineer, I worked as the Team Leader for the recovery systems team.
