I am the President and Founder of Aurora Life Technologies, LLC, a biotech consulting/design/prototyping company that develops custom solutions to solve problems critical to your business. I have an aerospace engineering degree from MIT and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Penn State University and over 40 years of research grants and contracts, holder of 10 issued US patents, and more than 40 years' experience as a contract consultant to both large international companies and small startups in flow cytometry and cell sorting, microfluidic cytometry for point-of-care portable devices, and nanodelivery systems for advanced drug delivery to diseased cells. I also apply machine learning techniques to analyze multidimensional data sets for biomedical applications.Before starting my own company, I was an Endowed Professor of Nanomedicine, Basic Medical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University, where I conducted NIH-funded research, taught courses, and mentored students. I am now a Professor Emeritus and continue to write and review manuscripts for scientific journals and have served on more than 130 NIH Study Sections, including review of many SBIR grants which I have also written. I have more than 175 publications and 10 issued US patents in my fields of expertise. I am also a Fellow of the AIMBE, the highest honor for biomedical engineers in the United States. My mission is to innovate and invent new technologies that can improve human health and well-being.

CurrentProfessor Leary, after 38 years as a tenured professor, researcher, inventor, and consultant, retired from Purdue in August, 2015 and became Professor Emeritus. He subsequently moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in September, 2015 where he has his own consulting company, Aurora Life Technologies LLC in the areas of (1) biomedical instrumentation development and and applications, particularly in the area of point-of-care diagnostic devices, (2) analysis and visualization of large complex "big data" using machine learning techniques, and (3) development of sophisticated nanodelivery systems for advanced targeted deliverhy of drugs. He can work with your team on-site or consult remotely.

Professor Of Nanomedicine, Basic Medical Sciences And Biomedical Engineering
Professor Leary moved to Purdue on July 1, 2005 and became the SVM (School of Veterinary Medicine) Endowed Professor of Nanomedicine and a tenured full professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences and the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. He is also a Member of the Bindley Biosciences Center, Birck Nanotechnology Center, and the Oncological Science at Discovery Park where his laboratories are located. He is also a Member of the Purdue Cancer Center. In 2007 he was elected a Fellow of the AIMBE (American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering), the highest honorary for biomedical engineers in the United States, for his pioneering work in the invention of high-speed flow cytometry and rare-event analysis as well as his more recent work in the design of bionanomedical systems. Since 2010 he has received a number of national and international awards for his pioneering research, including: the 2010 National Awardee of the $ 25,000 Chairmen's Distinguished Life Scientist Award by the Christopher Columbus Foundation and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; the 2011 International Journal Nanomedicine Distinguished Scientist Award; a 2012 Elected Fellow of SPIE (Int. Society for Optical Engineering) one of approximately SPIE 950 fellows elected world-wide since 1955; a 2012 Elected Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES); the 2013 International Society for Advancement of Cytometry Distinguished Service Award for eminence as scientist and inventor in the field of cytometry, microfluidics, and nanomedicine; the 2013 Leon Wheeless Innovation in Cytometry Award
Professor Of Internal Medicine
In November, 1994 he moved to Galveston, Texas to become Professor of Internal Medicine and 4 other departments. Dr. Leary was a tenured Professor of Internal Medicine (Divisionof Infectious Diseases), Pathology, Biophysics, Microbiology & Immunology, and Human Biological Chemistry & Genetics as well as an Assistant Director of the Biomedical Engineering Center, an Affiliated Senior Scientist in the Sealy Centers for Molecular Sciences, Structural Biology, Cancer Cell Biology, Vaccine Development, and the Program in Bioinformatics. He also served as Assistant Vice President of Research for Advanced Technology. In June, 2005 he moved to Purdue University to become the endowed SVM Professor of Nanomedicine and Professor of Basic Medical Sciences and Professor of Biomedical Engineering.
Assistant And Associate Professor
Professor Leary moved from his postdoctoral fellow position at Los Alamos national Laboratory to become Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Rochester. He stayed there advancing through the ranks to tenured Associate Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics. During his time in Rochester he invented high-speed flow cytometry (resulting in 5 issued U.S. Patents) for which he was to later receive a number of national and international awards for his pioneering work. In November, 1994 he moved to Galveston, Texas to become Professor of Internal Medicine and 4 other departments and 4 research centers.
Postdoctoral Fellow
After completing my PhD, I accepted a position as postdoctoral fellow for Dr. Scott Cram at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM. I also worked closely with Dr. Noel Warner on flow cytometry and cell sorting for immunology. After 11 months as a postdoctoral fellow I moved to the University of Rochester to start a tenure track Assistant professor of Pathology position there.
