I have an aerospace engineering degree from MIT and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Penn State University and over 40 years of research grants and contracts, holder of 10 issued US patents, and more than 40 years' experience as a contract consultant to both large international companies and small startups in flow cytometry and cell sorting, microfluidic cytometry for point-of-care portable devices, and nanodelivery systems for advanced drug delivery to diseased cells. I also apply machine learning techniques to analyze multidimensional data sets for biomedical applications. Before starting my own company, I was an Endowed Professor of Nanomedicine, Basic Medical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University, where I conducted NIH-funded research, taught courses, and mentored students. I am now a Professor Emeritus and continue to write and review manuscripts for scientific journals and have served on more than 130 NIH Study Sections, including review of many SBIR grants which I have also written. I have more than 175 publications and 10 issued US patents in my fields of expertise. I am also a Fellow of the AIMBE, the highest honor for biomedical engineers in the United States.
