Established in the United Kingdom in 2006 as part of the BGL group of companies, ComparetheMarket.com rose to become the market leader thanks, in a large part, to one of the most exceptional modern multi channel advertising strategies ever seen, combined with an exceptional online user experience. ComparetheMarket.com.au was launched in 2012 as part of an aggressive international growth strategy for the BGL Insurance Group. Australia was identified as having huge potential in the financial services price comparison space and cookie cutting the BGL groups UK comparison site business model and implementing this locally in Australia was the strategy.Initially responsible for a prototype business model and then negotiation of Compare the Market’s go-to-market strategy, including the licensing of the brand in Australia and establishing a stand alone entity. In parallel, a key accountability of this role was to recruit a team focused in the areas of digital marketing, technology and data, to build and then grow the web based business ongoing. Once the team had been established my accountability shifted more to establishing a 5 year growth plan and P&L for the business and optimising the strategy for the local market.

A key area of focus was social media, which I identified as a new low cost way to raise brand awareness at the time.
