The primary objective of the research was to develop novel methods for treating myocardial infarction by using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPS) derived cardiomyocytes to regenerate infarcted tissue and enhance cardiac performance.- Culture, differentiation, and in vitro characterization of an iPS-derived cardiomyocyte population stabilized with a novel method manipulating the p53 protein to cause cells with DNA damage to undergo apoptosis to treat myocardial infarction in mice- Histological analysis and reporting of in vivo results, including statistical analysis and echocardiography- Optical/electrical mapping of canine and murine hearts, both healthy and diseased- Developed Matlab code to model and analyze optical and electrical mapping data- Designed and constructed a custom optics solution to enable optical mapping of mice hearts
