In this position I have been responsible for the development of the refreshed Transport Strategy for the South East of England. This involves moving the strategy towards a missions-based approach for the delivery of transport improvements across the South East.This significant body of work has so far included:- Engaging with subject matter experts and regional stakeholders to identify key challenges facing transport across the South East, working with consultants Steer to develop a Need for Intervention Report.- With the consultants Steer, work on a Scenario Planning exercise to identify 4 alternate futures for transport across the South East, against which to assess different policy options.- With the consultants AtkinsRealis, undertaking some in-depth engagement with Socially Excluded Groups to identify their priorities and needs for a regional transport strategy- Assisting in delivering an online Your Voices Survey designed to identify the priorities of the citizens of the region, which received 1500 responses.This work will culminate in a Draft Transport Strategy for consultation in December 2024.

Establishing my own consultancy business, Mobility Lab has focussed on encouraging community engagement as part of transport strategy and project work. This has primarily been driven by consultancy work with public and private sector clients, and establishing a network of collaborators to build a new community engagement platform for transport projects. This is currently at feasibility phase.This advisory work has included advising start-up companies on engagement and deployment strategies when partnering with local authorities and cities in the UK and Europe. This is in technologies ranging from air quality monitoring sensors to autonomous vehicles.The companies engaged with include AppyWay, UrbanThings, EMSOL, Shyft Mobility, FiveAI, and New Motion. Following successful initial work and research, this engagement has included advising on impacts on business models.Other projects delivered for clients, and responsibilities, included the following:• Led a scenario planning project for the Ministry of Defence on the Future of Transport 2050.• Researched user personas in rural mobility in Inverurie, Scotland.• Project managing two major events: Transport Planning Camp 2018 and 2019, and Open Mobility Conference in Brussels in April 2019.• Acting as employer and line manager for one employee, plus a network of freelance consultants employed for specific contracts and work (15 in all).• Financial management of the business, including budget forecasting, submitting appropriate tax returns and handling payroll.
