I've worked on all kinds of software, from ground analysis for telemetry from the ISIS II satellite to the original Unix Emacs, the NeWS window system, and the Java Programming language. My PhD thesis was on "The Algebraic Manipulation of Constraints". I had some wonderful years at Sun Microsystems, where I was best known as the original developer of the Java programming language. I spent over 5 years hacking the control software of autonomous ocean-going robots.
