 Designed and built sensor interface board to power sensors and amplify data signals in engine testing. Designed pump system and associated plumbing for water loop used in process cooling. Designed and built control system for gyrotron. System incorporated external fault systems and user interface to operate gyrotron with strict timing specifications. Preliminary system used discrete logic and final system used FPGA. Designed and built safety circuits to detect faults in gyrotron system. Designed preliminary power management system for combining power from rectenna array. Design included multiple DC-DC converters, battery charge management, FPGA development, and microcontroller development. Designed preliminary microcontroller boards for autonomous gliding demonstration vehicle. Developed code to simulate microwave propagation based on diffraction theory. Designed and built gantry robot for scanning antenna patterns. Project included mechanical design and fabrication as well as firmware to drive motors and software to use gantry via a GUI on an attached computer. Designed and built experimental setup to test microwave heating of a working fluid via a microwave absorbing heat exchanger. System design included plumbing, instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition. Participated in the writing of multiple proposals for SBIR and other funding opportunities. Conducted research and simulations into the design of metamaterial structures for microwave absorption. Designed and built battery charging circuit for lithium polymer battery for use with rectenna array. Designed and built multiple iterations of a S-band rectifying antenna (rectenna) for wireless power transfer. Rectenna included patch antenna, impedance matching network, rectifying element, and DC output filter.
