I'm a (non-practicing) medical doctor, having left this year to work full time on Synap, an online education platform that uses AI and neuroscience insights to help students learn more in less time. My co-founder and I came across the idea in our second year of university, whilst looking for a more engaging and efficient way to study. Having found a method that worked - creating, practicing and sharing short quizzes with each other - we built it into a simple app.The app gained 15,000 downloads from students all over the world in 6 hours, which made us realise we'd tapped into something incredibly exciting, and spent the next year iterating on and improving the app, which at the time we called MyCQs. We looked at what made MyCQs successful, identifying key features as being the ability to help students learn more in less time. Incorporating new, intelligent algorithms and a marketplace model, we took the platform in a radical new direction under the name Synap. In October 2015, Synap and raised £200,000 investment. After a successful beta period in May 2016, this summer we are preparing Synap for some major new announcements, and a public launch in September 2016.
