As an Arboriculturist, I work from a practical level, I cultivate and manage trees, the work I have undertaken, both rural and urban, including tree conservation, felling, inspection, maintenance, preserving, planting and protection, pruning, thinning and tree surgery, often using a specific range of heavy equipment.Applying my knowledge of tree biology for effective management of equipment, tree care techniques, maintenance and planting contracts and negotiating clients' requirements, I have move away from the old “Tree Surgery” approach to the modern “Tree Care” methods. Conducting development site tree inspections, surveys and giving pre-planning advice on topics such as the effects a proposed development may have on trees in the area, and how best to retain them and incorporate them into the finished project. Providing information and advice on specific tree-related issues, there’s now an increasing focus on maintaining a safe relationship between the trees and their environmental surroundings, developing practical solutions to improve environmental issues in urban areas, advising on trees for development sitesProvide training for junior colleagues and volunteersReviewing and responding to planning applicationsSelecting plants and designing landscaping schemesWriting reports for engineers, solicitors, mortgage and insurance companies, amongst other items.
