About James Hatfield

Multi-disciplined innovator looking for opportunities to impact society and the future of humanity (but might settle for making incremental improvements over the next few decades). At the most basic level an analyst, a designer and developer, with a strong belief in the scientific method. Observing, proposing hypotheses, designing experiments and collecting more data to measure and analyze. Sometimes the experiments are in the form of products or features and sometimes they are merely logic tests or surveys. They are always deliberate and intentional with specific measurable and attainable goals. Primarily working in the field of user experience w/ a concentration in application development. I have focused on digital UX for the last 20+ years, online commerce 10+ years and consumer social apps for 5+ years. UX work, whether in design or development, is fundamentally about informed intuition. As UX professionals we are measuring and evolving something that is both the result of and a key input into the modern human condition. We take gathered information and apply our skills and experience towards improving products and services. Then we test it until it breaks or turns into gold, repeat.See a selection from my portfolio of work at Behance https://www.behance.net/jameshatfieldSee some selected stats on my dev work at GitHub https://www.github.com/emenohRead more of my thoughts on Medium: https://medium.com/@emenoh/ and Follow me on Twitter @emenoh

Teen Entrepeneur

Inner Child Industries

As a teen I sold original illustrations to the surf/skate industry. Quiksliver, Mossimo, Volcom, Etnies, etc. in the beginning I created hand drawn line art, inked them with india ink Penstix, photocopied them and enlarged to 200-300% size, re-traced, re-inked and copied again, reducing by 85% to get clean lines. Then I would use graphic pens (design markers) to do color variations of each design. This is how I purchased my first personally owned Mac desktop system, scanner and printer. I then began using it for final art instead of photocopies and markers I scanned and photoshopped (PS 2.5!!!).This experience was a great entry into professional services and ultimately lead me on the path to where I am today.
