I have always had an interest in and aptitude for technology. Being raised in Hawaii opportunities to work in technology were limited. I moved to Seattle in 2008. I attended community college part time for a few years studying Computer Science prerequisites. I moved to Dallas in 2014. I found a job at a Managed Service Provider.My aptitude for technology and the culture at Networking Results enabled me to learn a lot very quickly. I was often given opportunities to work on tickets that advanced my knowledge and skillset. After 3 years I was the subject matter expert for 50 customers. I enjoyed the sense of ownership of infrastructure and building relationships with customers.Networking Results merged into Iconic IT. The subject matter expert responsibility shifted to another role. My other responsibilities remained unchanged, but I came to miss the sense of ownership. I was promoted to Core Services Infrastructure Administrator. Working on a team of subject matter experts over our tools I had a renewed sense of ownership. I came to greatly enjoy automation and I excelled at it.Iconic IT was acquired by Integris. Core Services was combined with similar teams from other regions. My manager recommended me for a position in DevOps with my background in operations and automation. I was promoted to DevOps Engineer. This was an exciting change. Many new technologies to learn and challenges to overcome.
