During college I changed my major to Outdoor Ed and Leisure Services, prompted by the wonderful summers I spent as a counselor at an institutionally operated Christian, non-profit, boys camp. Through high school and college I worked every summer there. Upon graduation, my wife and I sought full-time employment in the camping industry, eventually landing positions with a privately owned, for-profit, girls' camp. During our four years of service there we developed a huge desire to "be the boss someday" and began investigating the possibilities. In 2000 we took the plunge purchasing the property in NE GA on which we would begin construction in 2002. We opened for camp in June of 2005.I have experience ranging from head counselor to food service, purchasing to programming, and now, with FABULOUS help, owning and directing. We moved to Cleveland in 2000 to begin construction on our dream. We opened in June of 2005 with our first summer of camp. The summer camp continues to grow as more people share their experience with their friends. We use the facilities the rest of the year for retreat groups and we have seen a steady increase in that area. We are blessed to do what we do.
At Skyline I was responsible for supervising counselors as activity instructors, maintaining the integrity of the content taught in activities, purchasing and maintaining equipment, and creating and operating any special events. If a child participated in in, I was responsible for how they experienced it.
I spent four summers as counselor staff, one summer solely responsible for the Indian lore classes and special cerimonies, one year as a horseback riding staff member, and lastly a head counselor in charge of 8 staff members and 36 14-16 year old boys.
