The career of Dr. Ionson, who was the lead scientist/engineer behind President Ronald Reagan’s “Star Wars” program appointed by Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger to the Senior Executive Service with equivalent rank of Major General; and has for the last 40 years focused on the convergence of multiple technologies such as data collection and data analysis utilizing multiple techniques including his patented artificial intelligence technologies with e-commerce, consumer, Government, medical, and industrial applications. He was Chief Technology Officer at Polaroid in charge of developing software and imaging technologies for its consumer, medical and commercial businesses. Dr. Ionson was also CEO of a number of advanced technology businesses for venture capital and private equity firms, participated in M&As and IPOs, published hundreds of papers in professional journals and authored patents for artificial intelligence and digital-imaging inventions. Dr. Ionson also served as entrepreneur in residence for Battelle Venture Partners, a $220-million national venture-capital fund. Dr. Ionson was also a member of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Senior Executive Service with equivalent rank of Major General, appointed by Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger in 1985 and created the Innovative Science and Technology Directorate for President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) -- an Organization that still exists and is a functional Directorate of the now Missile Defense agency. He has held top-secret and special intelligence clearances with the Defense Intelligence Agency and has advised the Pentagon and NASA on critical technology issues related to National Security.He was named outstanding scientist of the year by the Maryland Academy of Sciences, has been honored by the Harvard-Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research, the DOD, NASA and the Federal Office of Personnel Management. Dr. Ionson was awarded a Ph.D. in theoretical plasma astrophysics from the University of Maryland in 1977 and was adjunct professor of physics from 1978-1985. He earned from the University of Michigan master degrees in aerospace engineering and physics, in 1975 and 1973, respectively; and bachelor degrees in math, physics and astronomy in 1972.
