Dr James Dillon is a creative digital marketing practitioner. This trans-disciplinary practice encompasses business strategy and professional work processes; digital media and communications; content marketing strategy; and user-experience focused design practice (includes physical, desktop, and mobile distribution channels). Dr Dillon has more than two decades of work experiences, including contemporary generative AI design processes; journalism and print publishing; internal communications and intranets for large and complex organisations; Wordpress-based website design, administration, and content production; social media strategy and content distribution; enewsletters and EDMs; photography; and video production. He is passionate about creating and distributing engaging online content through integrated systems and platforms. He drives audience engagement through content marketing and digital storytelling strategy. James began his professional career in 2007 as a marketing manager and event co-ordinator. In 2009 he became editorial co-ordinator for a national magazine publisher. In 2012 he transitioned to a digital-focused university communications role. Having contributed to creativity and innovation within QUT Creative Industries, in 2018 he moved to QUT's central Learning and Teaching Unit to coordinate and partners with key learning and teaching staff to develop strategic and operational communications for the units internal and university-wide learning and teaching activities. In 2024 Dr Dillon published his Professional Doctorate (Creative Third Space: Applying Creative Digital Marketing Practice in Higher Education Settings), became an independent Creative Digital Marketing Practitioner, and co-founded CreatePlay, a creative game studio.
