I am responsible for the financial operations, planning and budgeting of the NYU School of Medicine which generates $2.5B in revenue, $1.4B in patient care revenue from the faculty practice group which employs 2,600 physicians, $310M hospital affiliation revenue, $328M in sponsored program revenue, $181M in National Institute of Health revenue, 435 Basic Science and Clinical Researchers, $50M in education revenue, 574 MD candidates, 80 MD/PHD candidates and 243 PHD candidates. Since October, 2012 I have acted as the Health System Disaster Recovery Leader.In this role I am responsible for collaborating with all operational areas of the health system to measure the business interruption and physical losses incurred, develop departmental recovery plans, reviewing the losses/plans with senior management, health system risk management, external insurance counsel and submitting these losses to the commercial insurance companies to recover the insurance proceeds related to business interruption, property and casualty and other insurance coverage. Also manage the internal group that worked closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and New York State Homeland Security representatives to develop project worksheets that summarized the health system losses and was awarded over $1.4B in FEMA disaster recovery grants being used to offset expenditures incurred to repair, replace and mitigate future risk and losses. In this role I am responsible for implementing systems and internal controls to properly administer the awarded federal funds, work closely with internal partners to develop and monitor all capital and operating and cash flow budgets and submitting all required monthly, quarterly and annual spending reports to the state and federal agencies.

Responsible for the leadership and broad strategic oversight of financial recording, summarization, and reporting, the accurate and timely completion of all required annual audits, and working collaboratively with the Budget Office to assist senior administration and operating units in the effective and efficient management, monitoring, and control of the financial resources of the Health System. ♦Implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)-Lead in planning, design and implementation of the PeopleSoft ERP modules for general ledger, project costing, contracts, commitment control, cash management, asset management and accounts receivable. The ERP required the redesign of the shared chart of accounts and the integration of numerous specialized sub-systems. The ERP implementation resulted in a 5-day monthly close process and the ability to develop Business Intelligence reports and dashboards for executive leadership.♦Standardized Profit & Loss Statements -Took the lead in developing a standardized Profit & Loss statement format across the institution. The P&L can be viewed for the entire medical center and for each individual division, department, mission or organization. The consistent format has resulted in an emerging shared understanding of the bottom-line contributions of individual operations and has created transparency regarding investments in shared goals and missions for all leaders in the medical center. In addition, the P&L is driving various analyses from operational areas to Finance, mission critical information for proactive financial management.
