I coordinated Quality and Continuous Improvement Activity for our sites in Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Utah. We proudly make highway safety equipment including barriers and traffic message boards that make the lives of construction workers and commuters safer. As OPEX Leader I led the business team in selecting key production areas for 5S implementation. I used a team approach and led shop floor teams to implement 5S that used the insight of shop floor team members. The result was a measurable and sustainable 5S work environment. We follow up by setting up a routine Layered Process Audit that made it visible when 5S results or process variables needed to be addressed.After one year I assumed duties as Quality Manager and led the organization to ISO 9001 certification in 6 months. I created a system for implementing, tracking, and recording audits that reduced the time and cost to perform them using a mobile phone app. The result was a more effective audit that supported business and quality objectives by reducing the time to report results and increasing the effective communication of the audits.

Planned and implemented customized continuous improvement process used in new Outokumpu Melt Shop that began operation in November 2012. Created systems, training, and 6S implementation, and introduced A3 problem solving to communicate issues within the organization. Managed Kaizen events, total productive maintenance, and continuous improvement training were routine activities.Spearheaded cost savings projects that have saved up to $8M per year, with initiatives ranging from process control to save raw material costs to process changes.

As the company evolved I created and implemented several quality systems, including the Crosby Quality System and later an ISO 9001-compliant system. Continuous Improvement systems appropriate for specific sites were implemented.We implemented formal systems for customer feedback and a supplier rating system to improve communication with our suppliers. Our sustainability was demonstrated by the fact that during the last five years the costs associated with poor quality were reduced each year by more than 10%.
