I lead the assurance of Responsible AI practices at Amazon Web Services, working with engineers, scientists and auditors to ensure Amazon applies effective, responsible practices to the development of AI systems, and prevention of harm, while being able to demonstrate those practices meet international standards and regulatory requirements. I publish my own independent research, insights, frameworks and best practices for the governance of intelligent systems as a Director of Ethos AI Governance.I formerly led the Amazon Web Services regulatory intelligence and automation team building mechanisms for AWS to understand and rapidly respond to the assurance needs of government and critical infrastructure customers across the US Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. We translate understanding of the security, privacy, resilience and sovereignty requirements of governments and critical infrastructure sectors from all international markets, into new engineering services, product features or security controls and assurance evidence. With a leadership, engineering, product management and assurance background, the core of my experience has been in building trust and confidence through the engineering of new services and experiences for governments, financial services, transport, health, energy and other critical sectors as they innovate in the cloud.Previously as Head of Regulatory Assurance for AWS and as Principal Engineering Manager for Microsoft Azure, I have extensive senior leadership experience of being accountable for engineering design, delivery and regulatory compliance of AWS and Microsoft Azure in all markets outside the US. I led the business case, engineering expansion and security assurance of the Microsoft Azure platform within the government, healthcare, defence and national security sectors for both Australia and the United Kingdom.
