I’m James Killerby, MD at Hibiscus Plc. We’re based in sunny Leeds, and produce specialist labels and software for the chemical and hazardous goods industries (not very glamorous, but more exciting than you’d think, and we do it very well).Hibiscus Plc. is a family affair, which I joined full time in 2006, officially becoming Managing Director in 2018, when my parents bowed out of the business. In my time with the company, I’ve done everything from packing boxes in the warehouse to telesales. I’ve also more than doubled turnover, and in 2020, was proud to be nominated as Director of the Year at the IOD awards, in the family business category. Over the years, I’ve come to know the industry inside out through being hands-on with clients, both large and small. Having graduated from University with a degree in Economics, thinking I knew it all, I also quickly came to realise that I knew very little. This resulted in further education and training that’s been invaluable, not least my completion of the 10KSB Goldman Sachs Course. Now, as MD of Hibiscus Plc., I'm responsible for the strategic development of the company, and oversee all aspects of its ongoing performance. As the UK’s leading manufacturer of hazardous goods labels, and chemical labelling software, we provide bespoke solutions for supplying and transporting chemicals and dangerous substances, along with selling over a million off-the-shelf warning diamonds, shipping labels, and laser sheet labels in our online shop. Our work carries a huge amount of responsibility, and requires innovation, collaboration, skill, and expertise.
