I began my Law Enforcement career as a Sheriff’s Officer, with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department. Some of my assignments included the Jail, Court Security, Prisoner Transportation, SERT (Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team), traffic, Patrol and the Honor Guard. One of my accomplishments there was the capture of Serial Murderer Richard Cottingham, who had escaped from the Courthouse.In 1983, I left the Sheriff’s Department for the Hamilton Police Division. I held various positions there including, Police Officer, PBA President, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. My assignments included, Patrol, Safe Neighborhood Unit (anti crime), Fugitive Unit, Detective Bureau, Police Academy Instructor, SWAT Team Supervisor and Honor Guard Unit organizer and supervisor. While supervising the Fugitive Unit, the Unit executed many warrants and efficiently recovered enough lost fines to lower the tax rate in Hamilton. Later as the Detective Bureau Commander, I saw a loophole in Megan’s Law, in the registration of sex offenders. In response to that loophole, I implemented a new random and unannounced physical address check of registered sex offenders, which later became the Mercer County policy. This led to arrests of offenders for failing to register and for providing false addresses.After I retired from the Hamilton Police Division, I was appointed to the position of Chief Warrant Officer of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. My responsibilities included, the Detective Bureau, Fugitive Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Property and Evidence and SERT. During my time there, the Violent Criminal Warrants and Child Support Warrant arrests tripled.After retirement, I held a position as a Special Deputy Marshal (CSO Supervisor - Paragon) assigned to Federal Court Security. My current position is an Undersheriff at the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office.
