Primary developer for the TvSCAN tv sales pre-buy system. James introduced many technology innovations for the popular TvSCAN system, including 52 week reach/frequency, optimized Nielsen intabbing, and optimized Nielsen dailies processing.

DXM developed high-strength, high-risk data security and privacy tools for consumer and corporate applications. James designed and developed the company flagship consumer product, DX Enterprise Desktop. During his tenure at DXM, James developed expertise in the areas of cryptography, internet service bus technologies, and grid computing. Two provisional patents filed.

Worked closely with the US Postal Service and large corporate clients to develop new technologies for the emerging industry of hybrid mail. Hybrid mail differs from conventional mail in that the first leg of the mail stream is electronic, rather than paper.James wrote the first available certified mail consumer website hosted at USPS.com, and submitted a proposal for an electronic mailbox standard which would provide the same legal protections that a physical mailbox does. Technology that James developed while at USCL is still in use today by Homecomings Financial, State of Nevada, State of Idaho, and Texas Utilities.

General consulting and custom software firm.

James started his software development career as a data conversion programmer for various quantitative and qualitative survey data, such as those produced by Arbitron, Nielsen, Scarborough, and others. Later, he worked on the famous TvSCAN product, then moved on to serve as chief architect and team manager for CableSCAN 2000, a software package used by the advertising departments of cable television providers nationwide as a means for analyzing ratings data, and scheduling commercial spots based on advertiser needs and goals. Customers included TCI, Cox CableRep, Comcast, Paragon Cable, MediaOne, and Time-Warner. Heavy client facing, training, and general relationship building were required in this position.During his tenure at Tapscan, James developed a number of media industry firsts, including Retail Spending Power, a virtual memory manager which ran in DOS that allowed national survey databases to be searched in memory, and a cross-zone reach and frequency model that provided performance metrics for campaigns built on multiple cable TV zones.
