The MPA is the sole national port authority of Mauritius set up under the Ports Act 1998, to regulate and control the port sector. The MPA is a landlord port authority, providing the main port infrastructure and superstructure, together with related facilities. It also provides marine services and navigation aids, while it regulates and controls all port activities and environmental issues within the designated port areas. The Board of Directors (‘The Board’) of the MPA is committed to ensuring that the highest standards of corporate governance are practised throughout the MPA as a fundamental part of corporate governance matters. As the prime policy decision-maker of the Authority, the Board ensures the Authority’s sustained growth and development by collectively directing the organization’s affairs and maintaining the highest standards of governance whilst meeting the interests of its stakeholders and enhancing the financial performance of the MPA. Its main function was to control the production and sale of tobacco in the Republic of Mauritius.
