About James C.

I pride myself on being a Swiss army knife of sorts when it comes to my skills. I learn new topics quickly and have been able to adapt easily when starting a new role. In my professional life, this has led me to take on new and exciting challenges with every change.Community-building is a passion of mine. I’ve always been engaged in my community and strived to do what I could to improve it. This zeal for community has strengthened my ability to build consensus and develop better relationships with stakeholders and community members. My passion for connecting with others also sparked my interest in how government can improve people’s lives. My interest led me to Ottawa to complete the Master of Political Management program. Here I was able to learn from experts in the field on how to effectively communicate with government and move an issue forward. Since completing my Masters, I have been putting my skills to use for non-profit advocacy. Besides my enthusiasm for community, entrepreneurship has also always been a part of my life, so much so that I completed a Major of Entrepreneurship at Dalhousie University. From there I ran my own business during my last year of my undergrad and got involved in the incredible Venture for Canada Fellowship program, which I am still an active member of the Alumni community. This experience has taught me innovative problem solving, which is often needed in government relations.

    Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
At CASA, I oversaw every government relations aspect that the organization completed. That included meeting with various government stakeholders in key departments and ministries, preparing materials for parliamentary committee meetings, and playing a central role in organizing CASA's yearly advocacy week. During the 2022 Advocacy Week, CASA delegates met with over 120 different Parliamentarians and stakeholders, all of which were organized by me. As the stakeholder relations officer, I also played a key role in maintaining our strong connections with various organizations that work within the post-secondary education advocacy industry. I represented CASA during group meetings and ensured that the student perspective is present in all decisions. Finally, I provided political updates, government relations training, and made myself available as a resource to all of our members to ensure that they were prepared for any meeting that they may have with a government official. This improves the quality of CASA's advocacy as it provides a consistency of knowledge for our members.
