James Malloch is a Head of Operations at Lasoo. He possess expertise in e commerce, web development, agile methodologies, user experience, digital strategy and 18 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "I first met James when applying for a developer position at BlueArc. As one of many roles James undertook at BlueArc, he "picked from the pile" and screened potential new developers, enjoying the challenge and search for excellent people. Although adamant a candidate must have high technical knowledge and a sound academic record, it quickly became apparent that James was (rightly so) more focused on learning of a candidate's background - how they got here, how strong was their passion and where it stemmed from. To me, this is a shining reflection of how James operates. He is a man driven first and foremost by a love of all things technical; with the technical mind to achieve. James' passion was evident in frequent conversations ranging from bleeding-edge advancements in I.T. to recalling the number of bytes of RAM in his first development PC. His interests spanned from all corners and levels of technological application. He is always up-to-date and always commenting on the impact these advancements will have on people's lives. After passing his criteria, I formed part of James' team of developers and was on board as the team grew rapidly from ~20 to ~60 in a little over two and a half years. During this time, James' capabilities were on show as he implemented several key innovations to manage such growth effectively. These included: a separation of developers into a stricter team hierarchy aligned with clients and support hour quotas, an automated visualization of metrics across the business farmed from internal systems and displayed on screens mounted around the office, and the everyday "juggling act" of aligning resources to projects to find the fine balance to "keep everyone happy". As a former developer himself, I was always impressed by James' ability to resolve, from a high-level, issues spanning multiple factions of the business whilst crucially understanding a developer’s technical concerns. He would take input from all involved and come to decisions that achieved an appropriate outcome for all. Then, in contrast, I often sought out James' advice on low-level implementations of complex systems, seeking his feedback on usability, maintainability and effectiveness of my proposed work. His experience as a developer was crucial, but perhaps more impressive was his ability to sit himself in the shoes of an end user and understand their experience (good, bad or ugly) and approve or recommend changes. Finally, James has a keen interest for statistics and the role they play in keeping a business effective and profitable. Often known as the "spreadsheet master" at BlueArc, he was able to draw incredible insights from data collected across the business, apply that knowledge to practical use and see quantitative improvements within short timespans. Having seen James' work firsthand I'd highly recommend him for any position. He has a rare make-up of great technical and personal skills and a huge passion for the industry."
