I am motivated by the challenge of creating new places which people enjoy, are useful and which are sustainable in the widest sense. I am particularly interested in the wider context of our projects; how architecture can transform a place and/or reinvent an existing building to give it continued use for the good of society.I believe we have responsibility for the legacy we leave behind. Not just creating good work, that sustains people and enriches places, but actions that minimise harm. The best architecture in the word will be little use if we are under water, or living in 2.5degree world. So clear thinking, responsible advocacy, and trying to do more with less are central to my practice. I value being engaged with these issues right at the outset of projects: I am always interested in the process of building, maximising efficiency and reducing consequential costs, impacts, and risk. Our practice endeavours to minimise the carbon impacts of what we do; by careful advocacy to clients and stakeholders, and by reusing buildings, being frugal with materials, and designing for the long term.As a architect I try to work with others and for all: it is important to push for excellence - in terms of the service the team gives and the quality of the project. Teamwork is the foundation of our approach, bringing our (and others) skills and knowledge to help our clients realise their objectives. Personal relationships are hugely important, and the success of our projects is based on the working relationships we establish with client and their wider team. We enjoy collaboration.I have had great experience in dealing with complex projects on sensitive sites. Many of my projects have involved listed buildings, and significant advocacy and negotiation to enable our clients to secure funding, agreements for lease, planning, listed building and SAM consents.
