About James Mcelroy
I effectively lead UX strategy, design, and research teams based on 25+ years of deep experience across a diverse range of roles, industries, and technologies. I excel at quickly building the relationships and domain knowledge necessary to help UX teams deliver data driven, user centered designs that deliver profitable value to your organization. Prior to joining CVS, I led the UX efforts for the first project (a 100+ page responsive web application) to transition from a Fidelity Labs pilot to a widescale rollout on Fidelity.com. I was the first UX Director at PerkinElmer, where I led the global User Experience Strategy and the ground up redesign of a 100k page B2B website. I founded and directed the Monster.com UX team and Studio, was the senior manager of a worldwide UX design, research, and user assistance team of 30 people at Autodesk, and led the first UX consistency/standards project at EMC. I started my career as the first hire into Bose Corporation’s UX team. My academic background includes an MS in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering Design from WPI, providing me with a strong foundation to build effective relationships with and collaborate across technical, business, and design teams.I’m experienced with UX visioning and strategy, guiding UX teams through reorganization and cultural / organizational changes, UX coaching and training, design process / framework definition and refinement aligned with a wide range of methodologies (waterfall, agile, six-sigma), persona / use case / user story development, user needs analysis, task analysis, formative and summative usability tests / usability studies, heuristic analysis, user-centered design, and contextual inquiry. All thoughts or opinions posted are my own.
Listed skills include User Experience, User Centered Design, Usability Testing, User Research, and 43 others.
