LANDSKIP is a design and research laboratory. It deploys innovative survey instruments and develops powerful design tools for landscape transformation.The work of LANDSKIP seeks to impact the understanding of our environment by innovative use of survey- and design instruments. Whether small scale objects or large scale territorial surveys, design proposals emerge from the lab after a rigorous research process to reveal the reasons and relations of the materials at hand. We combine traditional, contemporary and emerging surveying and analysis techniques. This method has proven to enable new products and processes well adapted to the local terrain. LANDSKIP ARGE was founded by Ilmar Hurkxkens and James Melsom in 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland. It does not operate as a professional practice, but rather as a permanent laboratory.
