Plant Engineering/Project Management/Lean Change Agent

Assigned as one of two professional staff on lean transformation team for facility. Working with various areas of the plant to introduce lean concepts. Participate in value mapping for model line. Led successful Rapid improvement event to minimize material handling and reduce wasted time. Assisted in other projects to streamline operations, reduce waste and increase employee involvement.

In charge of all equipment and facility maintenance, and janitorial services for a 400,000 square foot facility for the manufacture of water chillers. Department grown from 14 to 48 people to provide increased maintenance services while reducing maintenance costs. When corporate decision made to move compressor machining and assembly operations to other sites, team members were recognized for their assistance with a corporate award. Department reduced to 13 people. Made the difficult choices on retention and assisted those released in obtaining positions at other area employers. Recruited and utilize multi-skilled engineers and technicians to increase productivity. Decreased turnover from 20% to less than 5% through using different recruiting sources to better match people to the jobs and by creative scheduling to decrease the impact of the required continuous coverage. Used simple statistical analysis outside of machining areas for first time to help determine production capability and run off requirements for new plasma cutting machine. Trained as a Six Sigma Greenbelt. Supervising multiple Six Sigma M&A Greenbelt projects as project champion. Introduced Reliability Centered Maintenance to decrease downtime, increase maintenance and production effectiveness and to select operational and insurance spare parts. Introduced Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) concept for tracking operational effectiveness. OEE concepts are now in widespread usage in this business unit. Led building change and facilities teams that moved three production lines into a new building with little loss of production time, that planned installation of new rotor machining area that tripled production capabilities and that rearranged the existing building to accommodate new product line while keeping existing production capabilities intact.Chosen by plant manager to lead corporate ergonomics improvement program at this facility.

In charge of all EHS reporting and programs after EHS manager was promoted. Safety program for this year very successful with plant approaching world class safety performance in recordable incident rate. Led EHS team thru outside safety and environmental audit with only minor findings and all corrective actions completed on time.Kept EHS programs focused thru plant safety committees despite changes in plant manager, EHS manager and EHS assistant.Continued work with engineering to ensure safe introduction of new processes to the plant floor.Led internal and external energy audits.

Commanding Officer of a field unit with a 20 person professional staff with postgraduate engineers and experienced technicians plus a 35 person contracted engineering support staff at various remote sites, with reporting requirements both locally and to the home office. Responsible for review and approval of all aspects of the design for a 420 foot, 16,000 Ton icebreaker, with a 32 MW electric drive system, for Arctic and Antarctic research. Used organizational skills to create a preliminary organization and set up of the on-site office prior to contract award. Used innovative flat vice traditional military structure. Set staffing levels, training requirements and budgets. Relocation office was operational within two weeks after contract award. This job required significant efforts keeping operating and scientific communities involved in technical decisions without exceeding contract constraints. Conducted briefings on the program to senior Coast Guard management and throughout the Coast Guard.
