James is a co-founder of software company Paradyn, which offers scheduling and planning systems for bulk-commodity value chain optimisation. Paradyn's software is used at complex operations in the mining industry with customers including Anglo American, Vale, BHP, and Peabody.Before Paradyn, James led the Pit2Port optimisation science group at Schneider Electric-SolveIT which was responsible for creating proprietary optimisation and simulation technologies within Schneider's Pit2Port APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling) Software. Project deliveries included large value chains such as Fortescue Metals Group, Roy Hill, and Glencore's Newlands-Collinsville complex. Prior to this James was an academic researcher in Artificial Intelligence (machine learning, mathematical optimisation, complex adaptive systems) at universities in the UK, Canada, and Australia with research funding through partnerships with government, defence, and various industry partners. James also carried out extensive foundational research in Artificial Intelligence and mechanistic origins of adaptation within self-organising systems. James completed his PhD in Operations Research at UNSW-Sydney and a Chemical Engineering Degree from Princeton University.
