About James Pulse
I grew up as the oldest of 5 children in an Air Force family where moving from one state to another became the norm until I was 6. We eventually settled down just outside of Seattle where I completed most of my primary and secondary education, finding my tribe within team sports. After finding success at DECA nationals during high school, I joined the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington to pursue a degree in Marketing. I thrived in academics, challenged the status quo as President of my Fraternity, volunteered as a baseball coach with the Boys and Girls Club and worked jobs that expanded the threshold of my comfort zone. From processing frozen fish for 16 hours a day in remote Alaska, navigating a riotious restaurant at F.X. McRory's on Seahawk game days, leading college pass sales initiatives for Stevens Pass, to supporting the Marketing team at PACCAR, I've consistently thrown myself into uncomfortable situations to seek further self-growth.Over my 4 years with PitchBook, I continued this narrative, becoming a domain expert in their proprietary software, establishing rapport with teams in India, explaining key concepts to new and veteran team members, utilizing data analysis to assist in opening a new facility and managing direct reports in multiple locations. During my tenure, I learned it's critical to define what success looks like, provide transparent communication and empower your team. After reaching a growth plateau, I left PitchBook to align my passion for the outdoors with my career... starting by spending the summer building out a camper van! After completing my camper van build out, I made the move down to Bend without a job or many connections, determined to make things work. Over the next 10 months, I found a role within a bike shop while continuing to live in my van. It was an amazing experience, but with the biking season dying down and the cold winter on its way, I made the decision to move back to Washington. I took a seasonal role on the Customer Care team at evo.com, connecting with customers throughout the winter season. Upon our team becoming fully remote during COVID, I took on a new challenge of Customer Care Training Coordinator. In this role, I've developed, implemented and maintained a fully remote onboarding program to get our seasonal Care reps up-to-speed for our busy season. My next adventure is taking on the Customer Care Training Supervisor role! When I'm not in the office, you'll find me mountain biking, skiing and adventuring outside with my dog Major in and around Bellingham.
