Characterisation of hardened cements incorporating simulant ILW The project has characterised and evaluated a wide range of aged simulant intermediate level nuclear wastes (ILW) from the current NDA waste portfolio and identified as potentially problematic. The aim was to increase current knowledge into the safety and long term integrity of these waste-forms with regards to supporting the future disposal plans including the geological disposal facility (GDF). This was accomplished by a variety of advanced material characterisation techniques coupled with novel approaches to data analysis to help inform and advise the project sponsors.
