Architect, people leader, and key technical contributor to the multi-continental engineering org that built and maintains Mineral's SaaS platform. My team's primary contribution is a bespoke case management solution made up of multiple services supporting a React SPA. This solution helps our internal team of over 100 HR experts deliver personalized solutions to over a million of Mineral clients.I also founded and lead Mineral's Architecture Guild. The guild's charter is not only to increase the quality of our SaaS platform, but also to share knowledge and increase cross-team communication and collaboration within our widely distributed organization. The guild has spearheaded several significant improvements to the Mineral platform, such as introducing a new way to build and deliver microservices to teams looking for better ways to manage their monoliths.

Leveraged my expertise as a developer and technology leader to tackle interesting problems, such as providing Business Intelligence professional services to a company shedding new light on the software development process and building a mobile agribusiness management app in Flutter, Java, and GraphQL.

As a Director of Engineering at SocialChorus I led both product and professional services teams. I built up the professional services function from a part-time function of technical support to a six-person team that built integrations and performed other technical on-boarding tasks for over 20 customers at a time. I also transformed two product teams' capabilities and process, reintroducing Scrum principles and practices and guiding them through significant changes in product management and team composition. Services owned by those teams included business intelligence and analytics, integrations and APIs, and identity and access management. Due in large part to the work of these teams, our organization's active user KPI tripled during my tenure, while revenue doubled and both gross and net retention improved significantly as well.

GovDelivery was purchased by Vista Equity Partners in Q4 2016 and subsequently merged with Granicus. I contributed critical technical expertise and support to the M&A process that drove GovDelivery's $150M+ purchase price.Pre- and post-acquisition, I led the GovDelivery engineering organization. I helped define the roadmap and sprint-to-sprint activities for multiple Scrum teams comprised of Software Engineers, QA Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Product Owners. I also owned all budgetary and personnel decisions for engineering, and I had over two dozen direct reports.Our engineering org actively supported over a dozen services in a platform that was trusted by thousands of clients at all levels of government. This platform delivered a billion electronic messages a month to over 100 million citizens, both in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, it included supporting features like eLearning, interactive text messaging, and emergency notifications.

Led a team that constructed a multi-tenant SaaS platform providing citizen-focused digital communication services to thousands of federal, state, and local government clients. This required coordination of efforts of teams in Minnesota and in Hyderabad, India, working on several services with independent backlogs and release schedules.I defined our product development process, managed the development team's workload, facilitated Scrum ceremonies, coordinated zero downtime releases of all services, and was responsible for continuous monitoring and improvement of key throughput and predictability metrics.

I began my career at GovDelivery as a developer on the aforementioned digital communication platform. We built it to replace the existing legacy system and wrote a large suite of tools to migrate all existing clients. In other words, we took on The Big Rewrite and won. The technology stack was based on Ruby on Rails, Java, Mule ESB, Oracle, and Kafka. Automation was handled using Puppet and ansible, monitoring with NewRelic, and process management with Atlassian.

Led a team that extensively modified Oracle’s Java-based Retail Price Management application for a multi-billion dollar international retailer. I served as the lead developer, managed the team's development processes, and represented Oracle at the client site during rollout of the customized application.

Technical lead of a team of onshore and off-shore resources that built a desktop-based psychological assessment application for NCS Pearson (Java, Swing). Key contributor to a web-based inventory tracking and contract management system at Cargill (Java Servlets and JSPs).

Served in developer, architect, and team lead roles on projects for multiple clients over a ten-year consulting career. Key roles: C++ team lead at GreenTree / Conseco Finance, C team lead at Trane, architecture team member and C developer at the State of New York Department of Taxation & Finance, developer at UHC ProviderLink (as well as other, shorter projects).
