I'm an engineering leader with experience managing groups of teams, both distributed and colocated, by focusing on creating inclusive environments and helping devs and managers grow.I tend toward a servant-management style, preferring to focus on creating clarity around mission, goals, expectations, and fostering an environment for success and high performance, then removing barriers for my teams. I also tend to value long-term product development and ownership where teams can be more metric-driven, relying on data and their own insight and knowledge of the product.I love working closely with cross-functional groups like design, product, analytics, data, etc. The most interesting moments and profound breakthroughs in my career have come from this kind of highly collaborative environments.I've worked on a number of engineering-organization-level initiatives, leading efforts to improve interview processes and hiring practices, building career ladders, driving adoption of new planning and goal-setting processes.As an engineer, I'm most interested in distributed systems and architectures, though I have full-stack web experience primarily in JavaScript/React, Python/Django+Flask, and Golang—with a bunch of other languages prod in the past. I've worked to build and evangelize continuous delivery systems several times over the past eight or so years, and have maintained—and continue to maintain—several popular open source projects.For nearly 10 years, I ran TodaysMeet, a popular educational chat platform, as a solo side project. It was one of the first web tools designed for classroom teachers and reached millions of students over the years. Not to mention it's value as a learning opportunity to me.
