Working at Joint Administration Office - Technical Services Department, Air Quality Engineering Section. Assisted in compiling an Annual Emissions Report (AER) for LACSD landfills and their pollutants from corresponding instruments. The report is then reviewed by the Air Quality Management District (AQMD) for any further actions or changes needed to be done.Part of my work also includes analyzing and creating a memo for ammonia emissions based on an upcoming flow equalization tank to be installed in the future. The task involves calculating and predicting air emissions, which will determine if certain hazardous risk assessments need to be taken. I also assist the Senior Engineers with wastewater air emissions research, such as nitrogen presence in reclaimed water and electrolysis method with hydrogen sulfide. Other daily tasks include: developing distance diagrams with ArcMAP GIS for source to resident and workplace receptors, revising and improving an Excel program for hydrogen sulfide (submitted monthly), and updating/managing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories, portable/non-portable permits and invoices from the District's landfills .During the summer internship, sixteen students, including myself, were able to visit different locations from the district, including Puente Hills Landfill and the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant. Employees from the district also gave us weekly presentations on different topics relating to water and wastewater treatment and energy recovery.
