Profile bio

About James Taylor

Hi there! I’ve just transferred into a new job at Samsung Biologics in the Cell Line Development group.Previously I was a Lead Scientist at Lonza Biologics in Slough, UK where I worked as an ambr15 specialist with a focus on cell line construction techniques. I worked within the Upstream R&D department based in Slough and in the Cell Technologies team in Cambridge evaluating and optimising various technologies developed at Lonza. I achieved the prize of 'Best Oral Presentation' at the ESACT 2020 Annual Meeting held in January 2020 and presented a poster at ESACT 2022 in Lisbon on GS piggyBac technology during my time here.I have a PhD from Queen Mary University of London from the School of Engineering and Materials Science and the Institute of Bioengineering. I also hold a BSc (Hons) from University College London in Biomedical Sciences and a Masters of Research in Inflammation: Cellular and Vascular Aspects.I have a wide variety of interests within the scientific field such as translational medicine, pharmaceutical manufacturing, bioengineering and biomechanics. My PhD project was concerned with investigating the use of amniotic fluid stem cells as a cellular source for treating osteochondral defects in patients suffering from osteoarthritis, as well as the use of polyelectrolyte microcapsule technology as a delivery system for bioactive molecules to enhance cellular ECM synthesis within hydrogel constructs. I have previously been involved in research projects focused on the implication of heat shock proteins in autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis (MRes degree, 2014) and an investigation into angiogenesis signalling factors (Bachelors degree, 2013). As part of my PhD degree I also held responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and Masters students, exam invigilation, national conference attendances, assessment marking and set up of practical experiments. As well as this, I have been involved in performing public engagement events with school children and members of the public at events within the UK (Summer Science School, Bioengineering Experience, Science Museum). Beyond science and teaching I have an interest in languages (I'm currently learning Korean and preparing for the TOPIK level 1 test). I am also a frequent participant in parkruns around the London area and beyond.

Listed skills include Research, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and 18 others.
