I used all my money from the sale to establish a foundation- no mortgage, healthy mind, strong family relationships. I learned how to be broke again without being poor.I've gained more knowledge, perspective, and insight from this period of reflection than at any other point in my life. It was also the hardest to live through, and I considered giving up daily. Glad I didn't.

This position was a true miracle, we had just moved cross-country, have been living out of a hotel for weeks, and just signed on a new house. It was a Wednesday and were planning on moving in the following Monday, so I needed to head back to the East Coast on Friday morning. I did four phone interviews from the hotel, before driving the four hours to Austin to do my final interview on Thursday. I left not knowing if I had the jump, but knowing it was too late to change course now. They literally had to flag me onto the plane, as I was accepting the offer as I walked on.This job would be the best job I've ever had as far as employee work. I got to work with celebrities, thought leaders, and heads of empires. I lbasicly got paid to attend hundreds of private masterminds with the smartest people in the world. While I was there I successfully leveraged $4.68 million worth of resources to produce over $500 million in client outcomes.

It was my first time on an international project meeting, covering four continents (NA, Eur, Asia, & Aus) so I got to experience the joy of discussing detailed, high six-figure contracts at 3:15am local...but we got it done. Over the course of a year, we produced over a dozen corporate films together, impacting dozens of teams, hundreds of employees, and tens of thousands of customers to live a little better life through the blend of technology and story.

Thanks in no small part to the in-house marketing and video teams I The owners caught wind of what we were doing and had me do the same for their specialized e-commerce brand and we 3x sales in the first year. Great group of people, worked out daily, went on walks together around the lake, and got to travel for events. It was a good run, but by the time I left I was doing a 2 hour commute. Either move to DC or change jobs, so made the difficult decision to resign. I sometimes think I should have just moved.

I got recruited over the phone and half expected to get jumped because the store was in such a rough part of town. I knew nothing about tools, cars, or any other physical manly things, so I wasn't excited about the product, but the pay was better, so...After a few months of struggling I asked my GM how he learned all the different things we sold. The sheer amount of skus was mind boggling and completely nonsensical in both scope and theme. "Ask your customers" - simple but effective.I learned a lot from my customers. For example, I learned that having public bathrooms will not prevent someone from dropping down a 💩 on the box-like, stockroom floor in the middle of August at 8:35 on truck day. I also learned that suffering with friends is still suffering, but at least we can bond over our shared trauma. Met my best friend and decade long writing partner bonding over comic book references while cussing out the old, broken pallet jack, sliding around the inside of a frozen trailer with a biker gang looking set of hangry and groggy old men waiting to start the 10 hour process of unloading, unpacking, sorting stocking, and storing that was supposed to have started an hour before. Got robbed at gunpoint for the safe - quit. Have never wanted to work near cash ever since.

My wife had some experience helping care for her family so she picked up some elderly companion jobs after class.She started getting certified to offer more services and started doing extended agreements. Client's talked.We took it full-time and legit. Hit capacity first day.Starting hiring. firing, hiring again, firing, crying, hiring, hiring, growing, promoting, hiring, firing, and hiring over and over till it got too big.Didn't match our life goals at the time, so we transitioned 96% of clients out and continued on part time for 8 months to be there for our first clients final moments.We closed the next week.
