I started an M.S. (thesis-based) at the University of Oregon working under Dr. Johnny Ryan in Geography. So far, satellite-based remote sensing is fascinating! I’ve spent most of my time crunching geospatial data with python (xarray, geopandas & rasterio). I am still juggling several different thesis ideas. One option is analyzing post-fire snowpack and flooding in the Oregon Cascades. Another option is an unconventional method for studying the Greenland Ice Sheet's hydrology. One option is analyzing post-fire snowpack and flooding in the Oregon Cascades. Another option is an unconventional method for studying the Greenland Ice Sheet's hydrology. I’m still deciding! Recently, I’ve spent a lot of time with NASA’s ICESat-2 satellite, but I’m also exploring gridded meteorological datasets, optical imagery, and possibly, radar. Looking forward to next term! In the Palmer Lab, I supported an NSF project researching hydrologic and seasonal controls on carbon-focused biogeochemical processes. Data collection and QAQC were my core responsibilities. Since we deployed dozens of sensors collecting sub-hourly measurements, I built skills ranging from reading electrical diagrams to programming data pipelines with R. Within the Virginia Tech Department of Biological Sciences, I worked in Dr. Cayelan Carey’s Lab. I facilitated field sampling, lab analysis, and data management for wide variety of graduate student projects. The lab's research focus is using ecological forecasting and high frequency sensor networks to examine nutrient cycling, carbon and methane dynamics, and algal blooms in drinking water reservoirs.
