About James Trory

I am very passionate about finding technology-based solutions to complex problems. One of my greatest strengths is my deep empathy for how hard it is to navigate the digital world and my positivity in knowing that, with persistence, the right solution is around the corner.In 2008 I made the decision, after wearing many hats and having many different jobs, that I wanted to be a photographer. I embarked on that journey in New York City with very little money in my pocket, but a dream that I could make it happen. By 2010 I was earning 100% of my income in this industry, which to this day I take a lot of pride in.In 2015 I realized that while I enjoyed "traditional" creative work, my true passion lay in technology. Technology helped me as a photographer be more creative, more efficient, to automate manual process, be better organized, and solved a lot of problems that were not possible otherwise. I loved this part of my job. I made the difficult and frankly scary decision to pivot entirely and pursue a new career.I joined Ralph Lauren in 2016 as a Digital Analyst and was promoted twice in two years. I pushed the development of technology tools by implementing QuickBase, Tableau, Airtable, Jira, and Adobe Experience Manager. These tools helped reduce costs by well over $100,000 per year for the E-Commerce division, increased operational efficiency and website content delivery, and reduced friction for creative teams in being able to analyze production volume.In 2020, in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, I joined the start-up Airtable as an Implementation Specialist. This team was small and had no clearly defined process. I worked with my colleagues to create playbooks, training materials, guides to best practices, and in developing stronger cross-collaboration with other Airtable teams. As a result of our success, within 1 year our team expanded from 5 to 12, with more hires to come.I am always looking for the chance to elevate a client or colleague's product experience. To do this, I want to build a genuine relationship with them by understanding their goals, what they love about their work, and what they find challenging. Then I help them find ways to be more efficient or more productive so that they can stay focused on doing those things they love and less on being stressed by the grind.In my personal life, I am married with two cats named after Top Gun characters đŸ± I grew up in England and visit family regularly, as well as my wife's family in Detroit. I love soccer, I love wine, and I love good conversation.
