Haiti Circle of Friends (HCOF) was started after the earthquake in Haiti, taking children out of large orphanage institutions and placing them in designated houses with other children who still have a mother or grandmothers in their lives. Without fathers these children are considered orphans in Haiti, and they are given up to institutions because the mothers have no means of taking care of them. HCOF cares for the mothers and children together, giving both of them medical attention, basic skills such as hygiene, placing them in school, and creating a small family. HCOF has two houses in Haiti, acting as a progressive model for the care of disadvantaged children.
