Lone software developer in the visual neuroscience research lab of Jonathan C. Horton, M.D., Ph.D. Wrote and maintained mission-critical software for the lab's core experiments. The stimulus program in C++ ran on Windows and sequenced visual stimuli according to experimental design. Stimuli were coordinated with specialized neurophysiology hardware programmed in proprietary scripting and assembly languages to record eye movements and neural activity and to control electronic peripherals. Collaborated closely with Dr. Horton and post-doctoral fellows on experimental design and requirements. Required heavy self-directed study of the human and primate visual system.Analyzed data and produced figures for publications in MATLAB, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Filtered and normalized images of photoreceptor cells to remove noise and improve resolution.Assembled and configured Linux systems to run automated mouse experiments with an open-source MATLAB extension. Wrangled some library workarounds to support old software whose source had been lost, leaving only the binaries.Carried many IT duties as well, including ownership of multiple NAS appliances. Supported Windows servers for file sharing and to run Apache. Managed user, computer, and group accounts in Active Directory for all research personnel in the department. Configured and resuscitated Apple hardware including laptops, desktops, and wireless base stations. Performed successful hard drive transplant surgery on a unibody iMac.

Authored source configuration, build, and release plan for GSD4t project to better support revision control and to facilitate customer-specific ports.Software Team Lead for GSD3tw firmware. Tracked multiple customer engagements and ports while coordinating development of core features across three engineering sites.Developed web application for vetting proposed code changes using a minimal number of licenses for proprietary toolchains. Server component on IIS in C# .NET with XML backend; upload component in Python interfacing with Perforce; worker component in Bash shell and Python. Learned C# and XML DOM for the project.Managed SiRF’s use of Bakefile, a cross-platform build configuration environment. An engine written in Python would read platform-independent XML project files to generate Makefiles or Visual Studio project files for the respective toolchains. Extension of Bakefile to support new toolchains was by writing new Python classes.Presented educational session on SiRFSoft at world-wide meeting of 30 SiRF field engineers and customers in lieu of my supervisor, the program director.Recognized in 2006 and 2007 for “consistently good judgment” and “ability to direct the work of others”.
