This was a new position, following on from the role at IDS. The job was to integrate the Intelligent Data Systems software and development team into the DriveTech team, establish basic agile working practices and work with the business to design a single fleet management product that took the best of the IDS and DriveTech products.

As the IT Solutions Manager I ran the IDS Software Development & IT support departments.Delivering and maintaining a variety of ASP.NET, MVC, WCF, WebAPI & SQL Server based solutions.IDS is a subsidiary company of The AA. During August & September 2016 the IDS and AA DriveTech businesses were integrated. The IDS site in Harrogate was closed and moved to Basingstoke. I oversaw the IT related aspects of this move, including server moves, telephony system installation and the shifting of a dedicated network link with the DVLA.From September 2016 worked in Basinstoke to help establish the new licence checking teams within AA DriveTech.

I served as the Interim Software Development Manager for MGC. The team is comprised of six developers and a trainer using Microsoft Stack and common web technologies (.NET 4.5, C#, MVC5, WebAPI, jQuery, AngularJS, Bootstrap 3, Umbraco, Windows Forms & SQL Server) while in this role my major achievements were:The stabilisation of the development team and projects after the previous, long serving, manager left.The development of a software development strategy that lays out a roadmap to move to agile development with a SCRUM like process, unit testing and functional testing and dev-ops.The introduction of JIRA and Confluence for task tracking, project management and documentation.Recruited four new members of development staff and a new permanent development manager.Delivered three web based business systems that support Welfare to Work prime contracts awarded by DWP (Dept. of Work and Pensions) and SFA (Skills Funding Agency). I also managed the delivery of three Umbraco 7 based web sites for group companies.Managed ISO27001 compliance for the software department. I Implemented a secure development policy to comply with ISO27001. I also organised a series of penetration tests to ensure the security of public facing and internal systems.Mentoring of team members in both agile practices and software tools and technologies. Including C#, MVC 5, WebAPI, SQL Server, JIRA, Confluence, Docker, AngluarJS, TypeScript, Bootstrap 3 and others.Lead supplier reviews in the areas of networking and software licensing. I also lead the ITT process for MGC's WAN networking which is a £200K+ p/a.

Supported the growth of the company from 36 to 80 staff and a 4 x growth in sales over the period. The main responsibilities and achievements in this role were:Responsibility for the management of software development technology. Moved the development team from C# with ASP.NET Forms, WCF services, Windows Forms and SQL Server 2008 in Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2013, C# .NET 4.5, MVC 5.2, Orchard CMS, WebAPI and Katana with SQL Server 2012 and 2014 with the Dapper Micro ORM. Front end web technologies include HTML5, CSS3, SASS, jQuery, AngularJS and Twitter Bootstrap.Recruitment of all technical staff. Grew team from 6 developers in a single team to 15 developers in three teams.Line management of developers, Testers and IT support staff.Management of all IT systems, PCs, networking, IP Telephony, Servers and Hosted Systems.Managed the migration of the company hosting platform from physical servers at Rackspace to a high availability VMWare solution that is owned by the company but hosted at a local hosting provider in Liverpool.Established Atlassian JIRA with JIRA Agile and Confluence as the company development and documentation system.Established agile practices for the development teams and the graphic design and UX team that are based around the SCRUM methodology with sprints, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, sprint planning and complexity estimation using poker planning.Established the company IT support team of two members who have migrated company desktop PCs and laptops to Windows 8.1, rolled out Office 365 and Exchange 365 linked Active Directory to Azure Active Directory, moved the company into new offices in Liverpool and set up a new high availability server room with multiple optical fibre connections and redundant IP telephony and networking systems.Technical management of a contact centre with a capacity of 50 customer service agents.Technology road mapping for the company covering all IT and development technologies.

Design and build industrial and business computer software and hardware systems to support glass manufacturing.Provide technical leadership to ensure best practice in system design, development, testing and documentation.

Design and development of a multithreaded process control system that comprises of a number of Microsoft Windows programs written using Visual C++ 6 with MFC, ATL and STL with interfaces to an Allen-Bradley SLC500 PLC, National Instruments FieldPoint digital input and output modules and Intellution iFix and Fix32 SCADA software.

Software Architect and lead developer for a system that automates power recovery on electricity supply networks. This was a new system that used SQL Server 2000 on a Windows 2000 platform. It is a multithreaded system written in Visual C++ 6 using MFC, ATL, ADO, and TCPIP communication.

Worked on an Internet Café project for Virgin Megastores. I specified and developed software to use GEMPlus GEMClub smart cards to log in to Windows 2000. Using C++, the Windows Smart Card API and the Win32 API. I wrote software to customize Windows 2000 for use in an Internet café environment. I also did a large amount of work using Java in IBM Visual Age 3.5. I wrote the customer administration application.

I specified the architecture for, and oversaw the production of a 3-tier client server system for the legal profession using C++ Builder 5, Delphi 5, Interbase 5 & 6, MIDAS and TCP/IP connectivity. Including ATL based COM objects in C++Builder, and VCL components.I was asked to manage the development department in June 1999. This role involved:Building and leading a team of 5 programmersNegotiating with senior management over timescales and project priorities.Setting and monitoring development schedules and project plans.Providing training in C++, Interbase, and advanced Delphi.Developing software. The role of the team is to develop new 3-Tier software, while also extending and supporting an existing product.I left this role after being asked to join the HP/Virgin project

I worked on a system to provide Service Resource Centre software to a number of corporate clients. The system communicates with engineers or other field operatives via a mobile telephone network, and manages their workload and positions. I used Delphi 4, Interbase 5.5 and MIDAS to create an application server that is a collection of COM objects that communicate with client software using Winsock and TCP/IP instead of DCOM.

I worked on a system that is used by further education colleges for the storage and retrieval and management of courses, students and tutors. This system was written using Delphi 4 and Visual C++, using the MIDAS, components, and TCP/IP to write a three-tier application that communicates with an SQL Server 6.5 database. The client, or front end application makes use of a number of technologies including OLE and COM to integrate MS Office 97 and other OLE enabled applications, and Internet Explorer 4.01 which is built into the application to provide integrated web access.I took on some extra responsibilities, including advising on coding implementation, and interviewing prospective members of staff.

I worked on an application known that controls, and captures results from a machine that measures errors on silicon wafers in semiconductor fabrication plants. This application is multithreaded and is written using object orientated techniques in Delphi 3.0. The program is written to run on Windows 95 and NT 4.0. The software communicates via serial ports using the Win 32 Comms API functions. It uses the ECS (SEMI Equipment Communications Standard) messaging protocol.

This division of the Lloyds TSB group was formerly known as Lloyds Bowmaker. From August to December 1997 I was contracted to help produce P/Link car finance software, which is used by car dealers in the UKInitially I came to the project three weeks before a deadline, so I spent a lot of time implementing specifications that had already been written, and fixing problems in the product.I specified and wrote extensions to the product to handle varying types of commission structures. I also specified and wrote an extension to the contract hire section of the program to produce a list of vehicles, and their monthly rental values, within a given set of parameters supplied by the user of the software.Specified and wrote a program to test a computer to make sure that it meets the correct standards to run the Lloyds software. The program involved using the Windows API to control a modem, and gather system level information about the computer, before writing information to a floppy disk for analysis by Lloyds staff.All coding was undertaken using Delphi.

Worked on the design, development, support, installation and sales of administration and accounting software for Universities, NHS Trusts and The Medical Research Council.Developing in Clipper, C++ and Visual Basic moving over to Delphi.

This was the placement year in the second year of an HND. Programming in Clipper, Microsoft Basic, and Borland C, producing a system for data collection, and recording births for research purposes. I was also responsible for maintaining a small network of PC's.
