Bulembu International is committed to restoring a community in Swaziland to financial self-sustainability by the year 2020 and transforming a nation. This vision includes orphan care, education, health services and commerce. Since its inception, Bulembu grew to care for 350 orphans, create 650 jobs and support a community of over 2,000 people.Notable milestones include:• Developed and scoped the organization’s founding Strategic Plan; • Designed the Community Development Plan including strategic goals, implementation steps, and long-term development. Led in-country partnership including forums, feedback channels, focus groups and value assessment; • Produced business plans for the following enterprises: honey, water bottling, dairy, biomass energy plant, and managed them to implementation stage including collaboration to source capitalization of businesses, totaling over $2.5 million; • Led the communications, strategic planning/business development, community development and IT departments for host-country implementation in Swaziland;• Designed, developed and assisted in sourcing funding for specials projects including conference/training centre, city infrastructure upgrades, mine reclamation, business expansion and photovoltaic renewable energy project; • Sourced over $3 million in funding for special projects, including Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Jim Pattison Foundation, Caterpillar Foundation, Golder and Associates and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Finland;• Designed, scoped and led Swazi1000, a volunteer experience utilizing over 400 volunteers painting over 300 homes and ten commercial buildings, erecting a 3km dairy fence, building ten orphan homes and various community outreach initiatives.

Provided Leadership to 26 Council members, including 7 Executive/Cabinet members. Managed a budget of over $300,000. Designed and implemented a complete overhaul of Council’s financial structure, centralizing 26 budgets into 9. Formulated, wrote and implemented additions to Council’s governing documents, including changes in Senate, Club structure, finances, department structure, new positions and job descriptions. Created a Service Department that brought a shuttle to campus for students, provided tutoring and established an online used textbook store that sold over $10,000 its first year and is Council’s first and only revenue generating operation. Forged an improved Council relationship with the University’s President and Cabinet members. Implemented an innovative process for interviewing candidates for new positions.
