- As General Counsel to the Society of Saint Pius X, an international Roman Catholic organization with religious and educational institutions in over sixty countries worldwide, I headed the U.S. District's legal department and provided counsel and legal advice to the top executives, boards and department heads concerning its churches, schools, properties, assets, accounts, administration and personnel. I was responsible for risk assessment, avoidance and mitigation across operations, successfully avoiding millions of dollars in potential liabilities. I set up and maintained over 100 corporations in over 40 states, procured insurance for nationwide operations, and protected organizational copyrights and trademarks. I was also responsible for hiring and managing outside attorneys and law firms for all litigation and matters requiring highly specialized expertise.- Additionally, I negotiated and handled scores of property acquisitions in over 40 states, and successfully navigated complex environmental, zoning and land use issues. I prepared commercial construction contracts, architectural agreements and engineering contracts, and I strategically advised project managers during all phases of construction projects and capital campaigns. I also handled investments, endowments, estates, trusts, annuities and planned gifts, and I provided legal input and strategic collaboration on public relations, media and press relations, marketing and communications.- In early years, I also served as Director of IT, setting up and maintaining the office network; purchasing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing workstation computers; overseeing database development and administration; and providing software training and assistance to employees.
