As someone who’s long been driven by an entrepreneurial spirit I’ve often found discomfort in the status quo. I’ve come to view it as something that’s eventually meant to be challenged through outside-the-box thinking and innovation. There are certainly times where the market is ready to accept and embrace a brand new disruptive solution (i.e. YouTube, Amazon, Uber, etc). There are other times where it’s not quite necessary to reinvent the wheel but to offer solutions that address a problem slightly differently than what’s currently being offered. Coming out of business school with a healthy amount of student debt I quickly realized how 1) incomplete the solutions were to handle this $1.7+ trillion financial crisis, 2) how disconnected our own student loan information is when you have multiple lenders, and 3) there’s a need in this market to bridge the gap between student loan solutions and financial literacy. AlumSum is a fintech startup that is building a solution that addresses these needs. In a student debt environment immersed in both pride and shame, accomplishment and regret, hope and deferment, there are people who are individually attached to that overwhelming debt number above.
