The project was a worldwide effort with US&S project engineering in Pittsburgh, PA and Montreal; US&S wayside team engineering in Bangalore, India; equipment suppliers in France, Canada and the USA; and the Montreal Metro Team in Montreal. New equipment designs were required for vintage designs no longer available, which included new track impedance bonds and dragging equipment detector systems.Opened phase 1 on schedule which avoided liquidated damages.
US&S Lead CAB Equipment Engineer for the Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAAC) Stage II Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project. The project included new wayside signaling equipment utilizing US&S AF900 Digital Track Circuits and new cab equipment to be installed on existing Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) and new LRVs. Tasks included supervision of the cab engineering process, scheduling, managing requirements, customer interface, car builder interface and budget. This was a new application of the Micro-Cab equipment utilizing it as a digital step system. The new equipment designed was very cost effective to manufacture and became the base package for future proposal efforts. Several improvements were made to the PAAC system including several improvements to the receiving antennae, Micro-Cab packaging and operator interface. The cab portion of the project was under budget and on schedule.
Systems engineer for the Los Angeles Green Line Automatic Train Control equipment utilizing AF900 Track Circuits and Micro-Cab onboard equipment. One task was to translate and verify Green Line civil drawing data into an onboard database for software control. Problems existed in the current operation and with the new update provided the control problems were eliminated as to location and grade. I also generated System Level documents including the development and approval of test plans and procedures for system acceptance and approval. Profile field test results would be electronically transmitted to Pittsburgh in the morning and test reports generated for customer approval.

Re-wrote the Control Systems Emulation (CSE) workstation software package for equipment diagnostics and maintenance and greatly improved the operator interface. A letter of commendation from General Motors stated that the software/system was saving in excess of $100,000 per press startup. What it would normally take six men six days to accomplish, two men were accomplishing in two hours. At an ARMY installation, the Army Corp of Engineers did not think it was necessary to provide this check of equipment and connectivity. The Corp was very impressed when wires that were visually terminated correctly were found to have the wrong wire labels installed and were incorrectly terminated.
