I'm delighted to have been appointed to Manhattan Community Board 7 by Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine with the support of my City Councilwoman Gale Brewer. It's an honor to serve as a local representative of my Upper West Side community. I serve on the Transportation and Housing/Land Use Committees. After two decades as a journalist spent covering the issues that affect New Yorkers' lives, it feels great to roll up my sleeves and work on the issues at the ground level.

At Jami Floyd Media, LLC, we amplify stories about the Black excellence, the lives of women, and the LGBTQ+ experience. I bring to this work a broadcast career that spans network, cable, and local television, as well as broadcast radio and digital media. We are creative collaborators, especially around stories that advance civil rights reveal the human condition.

Our work at the Berkeley Law Alumni Association is focused on strengthening relationships among alumni, faculty, and students and promoting the law school's advancement. This is my fourth tour of duty on the BLAA since graduating in 1989, and it is an honor to give back to the U.C. Berkeley Law School and the Berkeley Law community.

The Director of the NYPR Race & Justice Unit is charged with guiding the RJU in its daily work, advising on articles involving issues of race and equity, aiding with newsroom efforts to increase the diversity of staff, and initiating internal and external discussions about issues involving race & justice. In this critical position, I strive to be a force to transform the WNYC newsroom and make certain our journalism is viewed through an equity lens. The Director is the WNYC newsroom’s compass on issues of race & equity, and as such my role is to ensure that equity issues remain at the forefront of WNYC's journalism and creative content.

Conceived and launched NYPR's first-ever Race & Justice Unit. The RJU will play a role in WNYC’s editorial policies, helping to guide WNYC's content in a way that speaks with New York’s diverse citizenry.

WNYC is the nation’s largest public radio station and an innovator in news and digital media. I am the local host of, “All Things Considered,” which airs live from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. M-F. weekdays. I am also the station's legal editor.

Before joining WNYC full time, I was a guest host for the Brian Lehrer Show, a role I am still pleased to take on occasionally. I also served as the station's Legal Analysis, beginning in 2009. I was named Legal Editor in 2019.

The Global Game was a New Media "tip sheet" on the week's biggest stories in politics, sports and culture with a unique voice not heard anywhere online. I joined TGG in spring 2010, and played an active role in the launch, design and editorial direction of the site.

In 2005, I joined Court TV to launch the daily, live television show, "Jami Floyd: Best Defense," designed to examine the criminal justice system through the prism of the Sixth Amendment, specifically the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial. "Best Defense," enjoyed a five-year run in daytime, airing its final broadcast in December 2009. In the course of the show, I anchored countless live events including the trial and execution of Saddam Hussein; the indictment of Lewis “Scooter” Libby, and his subsequent trial and conviction; the Enron trial and verdicts, the trial and conviction Zacarias Moussaoui, and the first and only case to be held at Guantanamo bay, the trial of Osama Bin Laden’s driver, Salim Hamdan.Among my most memorable interviews on the show: the first ever network interview with the celebrated attorney Thomas Mesereau (who before that date, had vowed never to give an interview to a television reporter); and indicted Governor Rod Blagojevich (cited as “hard-hitting" by the New York Times). We also started a partnership with the Innocence Project in which we featured one wrongfully convicted exoneree each week. That resulted in very memorable interviews with two of the Central Park Five, Damien Echols of the West Memphis 3, and Martin Tankleff who spent 17 years in prison for the murder of his parents before he was released from prison in 2007."Best Defense," was on the air at a time when it was not fashionable to be a defense attorney, "Law & Order," was the most popular show on television and most television attorney were pro-prosecution. I am very proud of our efforts, with this one show, to have a different perspective and remind our viewers of the presumption of innocence.

I joined ABC News in 1998, as a correspondent for Carole Simpson's evening news broadcast. Later that year, I moved to World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, and began contributing also to Good Morning America and Nightline. I also co-anchored World News Now (with Anderson Cooper), and the Early Morning News. I was named Law & Justice Correspondent in late 1999 (the youngest person ever to serve in the position). I covered the Rampart police corruption scandal in Los Angeles, the Abner Louima and Amadou Diallo cases in New York, and the U.S. Supreme Court. I pioneered national coverage of the Innocence Project and its use of DNA evidence to reverse wrongful convictions. In 2000, I was part of an elite team dispatched to Tallahassee to cover the contested presidential election in Bush v. Gore. The following year, I was among the first reporters dispatched to Ground Zero on September 11, 2001. I reported extensively on the rescue and recovery effort, in the days and weeks following the attacks. In December 2003, I was was asked to lead the Consumer Unit for 20/20, reporting on the FDA ban of Ephedra, FCC regulation of advertising in the diet supplements industry, and the congressional investigation of Clear Channel Communications. Our reporting on false advertising in the fast food industry resulted in KFC pulling its 2005 ad campaign. We also filed several award-winning reports on employment discrimination. During my time at ABC News, I interviewed countless newsmakers, including Henry Kissinger, Ed Koch, musicians Dave Matthews and Lenny Kravitz, Sting, the Rolling Stones, U2, film directors John Singleton and Spike Lee, the actors Danny Glover, James Woods, and Ossie Davis. I even interviewed Donald Trump twice (but before we knew he would be president).

Co-anchored (with Gregg Jarrett) the syndicated television program, "Inside America's Courts; Co-anchored (with Terry Moran) the live nightly news program, "Primetime Justice" which covered the day's legal stories in-depth; anchored live trial coverage in daytime with Dan Abrams, Jack Ford and others; reported major breaking news stories, from the field, including the Oklahoma City bombing trials, the OJ Simpson trial and significant Supreme Court cases. Conducted interviews with newsmakers, including but not limited to Gloria Allred, Alec Baldwin, white supremacist Byron de la Beckwith, Whoopie Goldberg, Don Cheadle, Johnnie Cochran, Ron Kuby, Rob Reiner and John Voight. Among the most personally meaningful to me: Myrlie Evers-Williams, wife of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers.
