Chemistry. Education. Wellbeing. Those are the things which are important to me. Whether it's synthetical or analytical, tertiary or primary, mental or physical, improving the present and inspiring the future.So I come to you from the pixels dancing on your screen, the word 'About' looming above in bold letters. This section is then, unsurprisingly, about me, and my overuse of commas. However, I know there is nothing more disengaging than a block of black text on a white background, so I'll (try… and fail) make it brief.Making a difference, that's what I aim to do. So just as you are searching for my spelling mistake or that misplaced document, I am searching for a new way to combine my passion for science with my desire to help those around me. I believe every opportunity will be what is made of it, so when I take on roles such as Head Boy or Club Treasurer, that's my goal. I grew up in a low-socioeconomic area, attending a school named after the suburbs it was sandwiched between. I have my ATAR chemistry teacher to thank for my love of chemistry, and my English teacher to thank for giving me the tools to share it. This leads me to my present role, a STEM Communicator at Curtin STEMOutreach, where I try to stem a spark where there wasn’t one, and create a fire where there was. I run and design activities, workshops, and events, centred around getting people excited about STEM. It’s a role I enjoy, and one that has taught me a lot, with oh so much more left to learn. It has allowed me to do what my chemistry teacher did for me, turn nothing into a spark, a spark into a fire, a fire into a blaze. I should probably tell you about an experience now, so I’ll chose my favourite, my 2 week stint in Malaysia. A new culture, new environment, new way of life, and, importantly, a distinct lack of coffee. It is an experience I took to heart, which allowed me to put aside my habits and routines to learn something new. It was an opportunity I made the most of, meeting locals, trying new food, writing speeches, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Although... I did miss the sweeping hills and mountain bike trails of Dwellingup, not to mention my (not) coffee of choice, mocha. If you ever need to find me, I'll either be on a trail, at Mallokup (my office according to Andrew), or online by any of the means above. I bet you didn’t even find my spelling mistake.
