Jamie Carruthers is a Project Controls Engineer at AtkinsRéalis. Colleagues describe them as "I worked with Jamie while I was the Education Coordinator at the Association for Project Management. An essential part of my role is to recruit and work with Education Outreach ambassadors across the UK to engage with and share their experiences with students. I met Jamie at an event at the ARU, and instantly I knew he would make a great volunteer, so I approached him about the opportunity. Jamie was fully invested in the idea from the beginning and offered to present at virtual events, but also in-person events which were difficult to source support for at the time. He was an incredible volunteer with us and successfully delivered his presentations to an excellent standard and communicated effectively. His presentation style is clear, and informative and showed how much he wanted to be effective in sharing guidance with aspiring project professionals. After the presentations, students have the opportunity to ask questions, and they eagerly questioned him on a variety of topics. Jamie was always thoughtful, articulate, and comprehensive in his answers which was greatly appreciated by the students. Whether we are students or professionals, a major factor in our success if who is gracious enough to share their experience and advice with us. Someone willing to be that formal or informal mentor for someone else is invaluable. In my time at APM, Jamie was one of the most dedicated Project Managers I have worked with. From his professionalism, charisma, willingness to improve, and overall knowledge of routes into PM and succeeding in your early career journey.
