My transition to supporting the Module build line as LSE sees me maintaining the same responsibilities as the Lineside ME role but includes the additional responsibilities below, and has furthered my knowledge of whole engine assembly and processes. Authoring, Management & Sentencing of;• Concessions / Deviation Permits / Technical Acceptance Documents (TADs)• Build Worksheets / Quality Instructions• Buy-Off/Close out of Quality Notifications (QNs)• General line Non-Conformance

My role as a Lineside engineer saw me supporting the assembly line for the Trent 700/900/1000/XWB gas turbine engines. This position held a range of responsibilities that all worked towards both maintaining production flow and improving lead times. I facilitated the introduction of new technologies and systems where required and also managed projects that ensured and/or improved the build quality so product integrity is maintained. Some responsibilities included;• Creation of Technical Instructions (TIs) supported by Preliminary Assessments (PAs) and Fixed Process Approvals (FPAs) • Tool Design/Modification requests & Validation of new designs• Process Data Cards (PDCs)• Dealing with daily assembly build complaints• Checking drawing compliance• Completing problem improvement requests• ABC / NC Sentencing/Buy-Off, Management and closure• Complete Calibration Error Reports (CERs) & Calibration Input Documents (CIDs)

My role within the Technical Transfer Team is to carry out last article inspection (LAI) activity, supporting the transfer of the Trent 900/T1000 build process to the Seletar Assembly & Test Unit (SATU) in Singapore. This requires me to review all aspects of the assembly process and compiling the information into several reports for the CAA to audit. My work requires me to delve into;• Drawing/Engineering requirements• Standards and specifications – (RRMS)• Assembly instruction review – (Paper based & CAPP)• Assembly equipment & Tooling Review• Data input for Dimensional Characteristic Matrices (DCMs)• Creating Quality Instructions for independent measurement verificationTo be able to gather enough data, part of the LAI activity requires build trials which run alongside the production teams. My part within these trials is as a Lead ME monitoring the trial progress, escalating issues to local PLs where required, gathering data & writing up information after a trial has been completed. Other responsibilities within this department include;• Fire leader/marshal• HS&E Department representative• Giving introductory training to new staff• Standing in as team lead in absence of manager and/or Team Leader

Responsibilities include:Contract review on all orders consisting of;-Internal documentation review -Customer purchase order, quality documentation and drawing review-Design checks on new work-Working with production staff and management in establishing manufacturing routes and capability for new product introduction-Review of material, finishing, heat treatment, cleanliness & packaging requirements for new and established parts-Review of international standards where applicable-Working to ISO9001, QS9000/ TS16949 where necessary-Considering CPK requirements of new work-Customer liaison contact for technical issues/requirements-Establishing written procedures, outlining necessary manufacturing control, failure correction & prevention protocol.-Point of contact for concessions & production permits-Directing subcontract suppliers on behalf of the company regarding requirements relating to customer orders and enquiries-Responsible for producing costing's against customer RFQ's taking into consideration;-Potential machinery acquirement to allow for production capability-Review of customers requested design to asses suitability against customers application requirements-Establishing possible manufacturing route using existing machinery allowing for tolerance restrictions, material formability, heat treatment and finishing process requirements-Any quality documentation specified on the RFQ or customer drawing. -Heading Continuous Improvement. This has included establishing a full document system to allow for the management & recording of all project work performed.-Using 2D AutoCad where necessary to detail customer parts. A basic knowledge and usage skill of SolidWorks has been acquired via engineering HNC.-Writing documents such as Quality/Inspection plans, FMEA's & manufacturing flow charts against customer requirements. -Dealing with IMDS submissions when required.
