I ran the morning shift for the Calgary Herald's website, ensuring content on the website was relevant, up to date and properly produced. This included:- Editing stories for style and clarity.- Improving search engine optimization.- Producing accompanying material such as graphics, maps and other interactive features.- Working with newsroom to support the Herald's digital-first workflowIn addition to website management, I promoted stories and the broader website through social media, through dozens of daily posts to Facebook and Twitter.The position also involved writing breaking news and business stories. The Calgary Herald's digital desk is a key piece of the newspaper's breaking news coverage — and I was part of this team when the Herald won a National Newspaper Award in 2013 for its coverage of the flooding in Calgary and Southern Alberta.

I was the copy editor responsible for daily production of the Calgary Herald's business section. My role included working with local editors and delegating to off-site staff to produce a high-quality product that met the Herald's editorial goals.I also edited content for style, clarity and space and worked with reporters to identify and address problems with stories.

My daily tasks included:- Editing local stories and laying out the news, entertainment and lifestyle sections of the paper- Covering local stories and community events as needed- Acting as a representative of the paper as required- Maintaining the newspaper's website

I was the lone editorial staff member at Mayerthorpe's weekly newspaper. I wrote and photographed local stories, edited reader submissions and laid out the paper each week.

I managed a team of reporters for Sterling News Service's Calgary operation, which covered the city's surrounding area under contract with the Calgary Herald.
